At this time of year, immediately following or perhaps induced by our holiday indulgences, we consider our resolutions for the New Year.

Making New Year’s Resolutions is a wonderful tradition promoting self-improvement, transition and promise for the future.   The blank slate of a new year is a siren song; tempting us to set lofty goals for ourselves on December 31st.

Here are a few simple, yet powerful resolution ideas I found on the internet that I believe will really make 2014 a happier year for you.

~ Write something nice that happens to you each day on a slip of paper and put it in a jar. Then in times of stress or as the 2015 New Year looms, reread all the small nice things that touched your life in a positive way.

~ Perform an act of kindness every single day.  It doesn’t have to be much, smile, hold open a door for someone, say thank you, or genuinely compliment someone.   There are some great ideas at http://www.randomactsofkindness.org.

~ Do only things that make you happy.   I admit when I first saw this resolution I was a bit put off.   But what the writer really meant was learn to say NO to the “extras” people ask you to do unless of course, you are happy to do them.   Many of us we say yes out of habit or a sense of guilt.   There are many ideas on how to do this on the internet, (I feel a future blog idea forming) my favorite quick find was this article at Inc.com.

~ Give more, be more charitable.  (You know this one had to be on the list!) I found a great article from USA today called “Be charitable, but be smart about your giving”.  Charity is more than money, sharing your time and talents are another way to achieve your charitable resolution.   I know this may seem contradictory to the previous resolution but if you enjoy your volunteer activity it often does make you happy.

Obviously, we hope in the process of developing your New Year’s resolutions you will keep the Lions Pride Endowment Fund in mind as you consider your charitable endeavors.

With all this talk about the New Year, there is still no time like the present to make a donation to Lions Pride; click here to go directly to our donation page.

Dewey, Geri, the Lions Pride Board, and I wish you all a safe and enjoyable New Year.  See you in 2014!
