Summer is always full of activity and many different sounds, but this week we experienced a different type of noise that we only hear once a year: the roar of motorcycles! On Tuesday, July 22, the Friendship 100 riders visited Lions Camp. 2014 marked the 5th year of the annual ride sponsored by Open Road Harley-Davidson of Fond du Lac.
The name of the invitation-only ride comes from two sources. The first comes from the fact that there is approximately 100 miles between the starting point at Open Road Harley-Davidson in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and Rosholt. The second part is in order to take part in the scenic Friendship 100 each rider and passenger must make a minimum donation of $100.
This year the group brought in a record $4,900. Thanks to their donations, moneys collected and a matching funds grant from Rustoleum Corporation. Since starting the Friendship 100 ride in 2009, the Friendship 100 has raised over $16,800 for Lions Camp through Lions Pride, thus endowing a camper spot in perpetuity.
After arriving shortly before noon on Tuesday, the riders joined us for lunch and received walking and wagon-ride tours from WLF PR Manager Cecily Filtz to experience camp first-hand during its peak season.
There is nothing we love more than educating others, both lions and non-lions, about the work that we do at Lions Pride to ensure the future of Lions Camp and all other WLF statewide projects.
Year after year, we look forward to seeing forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new riders participating in the Friendship 100. We thank you for your continued support.
