We’ve said it time and time again – 2020 is a year unlike any other. Today is a day to give thanks, but many of us are not spending the day with extended members of the family due to COVID-19 as we would have in the not-so-recent past.

Consequently, the pandemic has also changed the way we shop on Black Friday. In the past, the biggest holiday shopping of the year, started getting earlier and earlier, but this year, most sales have moved online. Yet, one more good reason to stay in tonight.

While you are busy making your list and checking it twice, you can support Lions Pride with all of your online shopping without spending any more than you anticipated. How might you ask? By using online tools like Goodshop or AmazonSmile. Learn how you can get started right away:

Goodshop

Goodshop is an online shopping portal that allows you to donate to your charity of choice with every purchase you make. Whenever you make a purchase with Goodshop, a percentage of your sale is donated to your charity of choice.

Goodshop helps you find coupons and deals with businesses all over the internet. Not only are you raising money for your favorite charity, but you are also saving money! The funds to operate Goodshop come from advertisers, so there is no cost to use.

Getting started couldn’t be easier. Just visit http://www.goodsearch.com/choosecause and search for “Lions Pride.” Next, select “Lions Pride Endowment Fund.” After your initial sign-up, you can select your favorite sites and Goodshop will alert you each time there is a new coupon or sale. Who doesn’t love simple savings?

AmazonSmile

If you prefer to get all of your shopping taken care of in one place, you are no doubt familiar with Amazon; but did you know that you can donate a percentage of your purchase price to your favorite nonprofit organization by using AmazonSmile?

Each time you shop at smile.amazon.com, Amazon donates half a percentage of your purchase price to Lions Pride. Keep in mind that you will need to start at smile.amazon.com every time you shop to support your favorite charity. When you shop, Amazon gives. Bookmark it today!

Whether you decide to use Goodshop to find the best online deals or consider yourself to be a one-stop shopper with Amazon Smile, we hope you’ll consider choosing Lions Pride as your charity of choice. You can ensure the future of Wisconsin Lions Camp and all other WLF statewide projects. Every online purchase can help us make a difference in the lives of people all around the state of Wisconsin.

As always, we appreciate your continued support. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Shopping!

Today is a special day – Thanksgiving, a day where we gather with friends and family to STACKED_0.pngreflect on life’s greatest blessings. We love the message behind the holiday, but isn’t it ironic that less than 24 hours from now, many of us will be stampeding through retail stores to find this year’s newest tech gadget or a larger flat-screen TV? Why do we only get the one day to appreciate all that life has to offer, but multiple days dedicated to buying gifts?

The team at the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact must have had similar questions because, in 2012, they introduced America to Giving Tuesday. The idea is simple. On the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (this year, it’s November 27) we take the day off from holiday shopping and instead give back.

On Thanksgiving, we give thanks.

On Black Friday, we get deals.

On Cyber Monday, we get online.

On Giving Tuesday, we give back.

How can you give back? That’s the beauty behind this holiday because the answer is any way you wish. You can choose to give time by helping a neighbor in need, give kindness by complimenting a stranger, give hope with a donation to your favorite nonprofit organization, or give knowledge to others with the power of your voice.

Regardless of whether you have $5 or $50, 10 minutes or 10 hours; all that matters is that you give. By finding a way to help your family, friends, community or organization of your choosing, you’ve done more than your part. Let’s join together to start a movement celebrating generosity and giving back.

The Lions Pride Office will be closed today and tomorrow in observance of the holiday but are excited to hear how you will be celebrating Giving Tuesday. Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Wishing you and your family a happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! black-friday-saleToday is the day where we will eat too much turkey, enjoy all of the
traditional side dishes, indulge in homemade pie and tell our loved ones what we are most thankful for. Then tomorrow, the holiday shopping season will officially begin.

Although it seems like Black Friday has been around for ages, it is surprisingly a relatively new phenomenon that may or may not have changed our Thanksgiving traditions for the better. To kick off the (supposedly) biggest shopping day of the year, we’ve put together a list of eye-opening Black Friday statistics and facts.

  • The term, ‘Black Friday,’ was first introduced to describe the notorious crash of the US gold market on September 24, 1869.
  • In 2015, the average dollar amount spent by one person was $403.55. (Wow!)
  • A recent survey asked Black Friday shoppers how long they would be willing to wait in line for a good sale; the response was 2 ½ hours.
  • Many Black Friday “deals” aren’t actually bargains. Several Black Friday hot ticket items are originally priced with the future discount built in.
  • Black Friday is becoming extinct because many retailers are now open on Thursday. Wal-Mart broke the tradition in 2011 when they opened their doors Thanksgiving night, leaving other retailers racing to catch up.
  • Although many credit Black Friday as the largest shopping day of the year, it still comes in second place, following the Saturday before Christmas, so you may be mistaken if you feel that you are missing out if you opt not to shop.

It may be just us, but seeing all of these facts one after another, encourages to us stay home just a little longer rather than bundling up and going shopping. How about you? Do you plan on shopping on Black Friday, or will you stay in and enjoy the comforts of home?

However, you plan to spend your Thanksgiving weekend; Lions Pride wishes a safe and enjoyable holiday. We hope you have the chance to spend a bit of time to think about all the blessings of life. As always, we’re thankful for you!

Giving Tuesday QuoteToday, we will gather together with our family and friends to count our blessings and eat what might be the most delicious meal of the year. Then less than 24 hours from now, we will all be overcome with holiday shopping anxiety. How on Earth can we get all of those presents purchased and wrapped by December 25?

We have a question, how come we only get one holiday to appreciate all of life’s precious gifts, but two holidays (Black Friday and Cyber Monday) dedicated specifically to buying gifts?

Someone else must have had that very same question because December 2, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is officially Giving Tuesday. The idea is simple. We, as Americans, are encouraged to take a day off of holiday shopping and instead give back.

On Thanksgiving, we give thanks.

On Black Friday, we get deals.

On Cyber Monday, we get online.

On Giving Tuesday, we give back.

How can you give back? That’s the beauty of Giving Tuesday; you can give back any way you want. You can give a compliment to a complete stranger, give time to an organization you care about, give hope with a generous donation, give someone something to smile about, or give in some other manner.

It doesn’t matter if you give 10 minutes or 10 hours, $5 or $50; all that matters is that you give. If you can find a way for your family, your business, your community or your organization to give back then you have done more than your part. Join in the movement to celebrate generosity and to give. Let’s start a new tradition!

Make an online donation to Lions Pride!

The Lions Pride office will be closed today and tomorrow for the holiday, but will be back in the office and ready to how you will be taking part in Giving Tuesday.

Happy Thanksgiving!
