Leadership Forum 2019.pngForum week has arrived again! For the past 43 years, Lions Club Members from all over North America have been meeting for three days of motivation, education and leadership development. From September 19 to September 21, Lions and Lionesses will gather in one of America’s greatest riverfront cities, Spokane.

During their time in eastern Washington, Lions will take part is over 77 seminars spanning a wide variety of topics, including:

  • making change stick
  • using technology for more impactful marketing
  • creating synergy through action
  • enhancing mental health and well-being
  • how to captivate the attention of a younger audience
  • the ins and outs of cyber clubs

See the entire seminar schedule. Of course, there will be no way for one person to attend them all of the seminars. The biggest challenge you may faces is deciding which topics to focus on.! We’d suggest talking with fellow club members and divvying up the seminars. You can always follow-up, later on, to talk about the highlights.

Other special events will be taking place over the weekend. Lions will also have the opportunity to participate in the Strides Walk, observe a Lions University graduation and hear from incredible keynote speakers. If you enjoyed listening to Michelle Ray’s presentation at last year’s forum then you’re in luck. She’s back by popular demand! She’ll be challenging you to become a better leader by changing your personal attitude.

Lastly, we hope Lions will have the opportunity to explore Spokane. Attendees are encouraged to come early and stay let to allow the local experts to guide them through the Inland Northwest. The city is chock full of historic landmarks, breathtaking parks and lakes as well as unique attractions. Browse through all of the available tours, courtesy of Group Coordinators.

The USA/Canada Leadership Forum has something for everyone. Will you be attending the forum next weekend? If so, what are you most looking forward to seeing? Let us know in the comments below.

Here at Lions Pride, we’d like to wish all leadership forum attendees safe travels as they make their way to Washington. We look forward to hearing about your experiences when you return.

Bon voyage!

We’re going to start listing a series of distinguishing features about a city; see if you can guess the location. Ready? This place has a Mediterranean climate, originated back in 400 BC and is known as the fashion capital of the world. If you guessed Milan, you are correct! By this tomorrow, men and women from all over the globe will begin gathering in the second largest city in Italy for the 102nd Lions Club International Convention.

The event will officially start on Friday with convention registration and self-guided tours of the exhibition hall, followed by the District Governor-elect Celebration Banquet.

On Saturday morning, the fun will begin with the International Parade. This year’s parade backdrop will take place down Corso Venezia, and feature centuries-old cathedrals and other historical landmarks. The Business Session will start at 3 pm local time and the evening will wrap up with the International Show, “That’s Italia!” presented by the Lions of Italy.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be filled with plenary sessions, certification and voting as well as various seminars. See the entire event schedule here.

Throughout the convention, Lions are invited to team up with other club members from around the globe to participate in special service projects. Lions will be visiting La Nostra Famiglia Hospital, Opera Cardinal Ferrari, Monte Stella Park and more. See all the available service projects.

If you are attending the convention, we hope that you will also find some time to explore the area. Milan is rooted in history and home to dozens of high-end shops, top of the world restaurants and several noteworthy attractions. If you want to look outside of Milan, cities like Florence, Rome and Venice are just a high-speed train ride away.

As you are packing, please consider including items to support the Lions New Voices Initiatives and Milan communities in need. The group will be collecting men’s and women’s underwear, men’s undershirts, men’s and women’s socks and unopened feminine hygiene products. Please note the club will be only donating new items and all sizes are needed. A collection bin will be available in the Exhibit Hall during the convention.

There’s no better place to make new friends and reunite with acquaintances than by attending the Lions Club International Convention. Everyone has at least one thing in common, a passion to serve. All attendees have the opportunity to learn about other club and district projects while also making lasting connections.

Will you be attending the convention? If so, what are you most looking forward to seeing? Be sure to tell us in the comments below.

Lions Pride would like to wish safe travels to all of our convention-attending friends. We hope you have a fantastic trip to Milan. Ciao!

The countdown is on! It’s hard to believe, but the International Convention is only hoursChicago 100th away. The 100th Anniversary stopwatch started its count at 365 days but has now made its way down to one.

This year, more than 20,000 Lions from 120 countries will come together to celebrate the club’s 100th Anniversary. It should come as no surprise that the celebration would take place in Chicago, the birthplace of Lions.

The International Convention is the ideal location for Lions to network, learn and serve. The excitement begins tomorrow, June 30, at 9 am with self-guided visits to the exhibitor hall and convention services, followed by seminars and the DGE Celebration Banquet.

Attendees will be up and at ‘em on Saturday for the International Parade. Later that afternoon, convention visitors will have the option of participating in the business session and viewing the International Show, featuring “The Beach Boys”!

Sunday will fill up with the opening plenary session, certification and voting as well as afternoon seminars.

Monday will begin with the second plenary session, followed by the Melvin Jones Luncheon. Seminars will again be held that afternoon, and none other than legendary “Chicago” will close the house down.

The International Convention will wrap up on Tuesday with the final plenary session, which will include the installation of the new International President and District Officers, honoring the Humanitarian Award recipient and the UN Flag Ceremony. See the entire list of events here.

Since the convention ends on July 4, visitors have a rare opportunity to celebrate Independence Day in one of America’s greatest cities. And you’ll be glad to know that McCormick Place is less than five miles away from the Navy Pier, where the hottest fireplace display takes place. Keep in mind; however, that there may be a 100,000-person capacity, but seating does fill up hours before the 9:30 pm show.

We’re looking forward to another great convention, filled with education, fun and celebration. We’re excited to see what the next 100 years bring.

From all of us at Lions Pride, we’d like to wish safe travels to all of our convention-attending friends. See you in Chicago!

It’s that time again; time for the USA/Canada Leadership Forum. lions-100th-anniversaryLast fall, we were fortunate to attend the 2015 Forum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and, we are attending again this year, in Omaha, Nebraska.

For the past 39 years, Lions from all over North America come together to participate in the largest and greatest Lions Club Leadership Training Event. Over the course of the next three days, Lions will have the opportunity to take part in dozens of leadership seminars, browse the expansive exhibitor hall, listen to inspiring speakers and (re)connect with friends.

The 2016 Forum will be slightly different than the past conferences because there will be a primary focus on preparing for the Lions Club 100th Anniversary. If you recall, to celebrate our milestone anniversary, we, as Lions, have been challenged in accomplishing 100 million acts of service. In addition to participating in several of the 60+ seminars, Forum Participants are invited to partake in three service projects representing four service campaigns:

Engaging Our Youth

Sharing the Vision

Relieving the Hunger

Protecting the Environment

We can’t wait to participate in another weekend of learning and fun with the arguably the greatest company – thousands of Lions!

On behalf of Lions Pride, we’d like to wish all of our traveling friends, safe travels, and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the forum.

LCICon FukuokaOver 700 District Governor-Elects from around the world (including our very own Geri Schlender) are getting a head start to LCICon Fukuoka this weekend. They, along with thousands of other Lions, are traveling thousands of miles to the 99th Annual Lions International Convention.

As you most likely know, the 2016 convention is taking place in Fukuoka City, Japan, from June 24 to June 28. Our DGEs are headed there a few days early to participate in extensive training seminars.

In their three-day session, the District Governor-Elects will receive comprehensive leadership development training and education about their roles and responsibilities as leaders in Lions Club International.

If you think these DGEs will be participating in nothing but fun and games before the convention, think again! All of the upcoming officers received homework ahead of time. Just take a look at their assignment guide. Fortunately, if we have any procrastinating DGEs, they will likely have a chance to finish reviewing their 55-page guide during their 17-23 hour plane ride.

The District Governor-Elects will then be joining Lions from all over the world to participate in the international convention. The theme of this year’s International President, Robert Corlew is New Mountains to Climb. The metaphor for the 2016 theme is, of course, a mountain to symbolize something that is challenging and takes a maximum effort to accomplish. It is only be climbing the mountain that we truly succeed. New mountains represent new challenges and new opportunities.

As we enter into our 100th year of Lions service, we are given a chance to honor our past and embrace our present, but to keep moving forward, we need to plan. To conquer our next mountain, we must lay out a trail.

We are excited to hear about the experiences of those planning on attending 2016 LCICon Fukuoka! If you are attending the convention, what are you most looking forward to?

Lions Pride would like to wish the DGEs, and participating Lions, safe travels as they make their way to Japan and home again!
