The Wisconsin Lions Camp is accredited by the American Camp Association. The property is 440 acres in size and includes a 45-acre private lake, which is the center of several camping activities. During the summer months, Lions Camp employs approximately 48 counselors, so the camp can maintain a staff to camper ratio of 1:6.

The goals of Lions Camp are to assist each camper in development of self-confidence, interdependence, social skills, outdoor recreational skills and environmental awareness, but most importantly, to provide the space for the child to have a fun, safe and memorable experience. Wisconsin Lions Camp is proud to give special children the resources, skills and knowledge that will serve them long beyond their childhoods.

Many people may be surprised to learn that when the camp was first debuted, it was funded primarily by Lions Club donations. Sadly, in the last decade or so, expenses for Lions Camp and all other WLF statewide projects have increased exponentially. Annual club contributions remain essential but now account for less than half of all yearly WLF operating expenses. Combatting rising costs was actually the primary reason for the creation of our organization. Read the entire story here.

Today, Lions Pride is proud to support the Wisconsin Lions Camp maintain and expand their operations. We work alongside generous Lions and non-Lions alike as it is the power of individual and organization gift commitments that will preserve the projects of WLF for current and future generations.  Last year interest earned from your donations covered the cost of one week of camp.

To all of our donors, we’d like to express our sincere gratitude. Like all of the campers, we too look forward to the start of summer. We feel so lucky to have the opportunity to help create positive change in our world and couldn’t do it without your ongoing support. Thank you for allowing us to continue on in our mission to preserve, protect and provide for Wisconsin Lions Camp and all statewide WLF projects.

Take a look outside. You’ve probably already noticed the once-green trees have now turned beautiful shades of red, yellow and orange. Aren’t we fortunate to have the ability to observe the gorgeous colors of fall? For those of us who have clear vision or glasses, it’s not uncommon for us to take our sight for granted, but it’s important to remember that not everyone has the same opportunities.

You may be surprised to learn that approximately 1.2 billion people don’t have access to glasses – that amounts to over 3 out of 4 people around the globe. You can help increase the world’s awareness of eye care issues by helping us celebrate World Sight Day on Tuesday, October 11.

2018 is the sixth year of the World Health Organization Action Plan and this year’s call to action is “Eye Care Everywhere.” The International Agency for Prevent Blindness is encouraging all of us to focus on eye care issues, so that everyone, everywhere has access to good eye health.

How can you help? One way is by utilizing one of our most prized resources, the Eyeglass Recycling Center. The Wisconsin Lions Foundation’s Eyeglass Recycling Center (ERC) is one of only 18 worldwide facilities that collects used glasses to share with the world and is located right here on the Wisconsin Lions Foundation Headquarters.

At any given time, the ERC inventory is about 125,000 pairs of glasses. These glasses are then provided without costs to sponsors of Vision Mission Projects to developing countries. Some mission groups are Lions, but there are several others, often including vision professionals.

To commemorate World Vision Day, consider organizing an eyeglass collection drive or simply promote your area collection box. Of course, there are many other ways to help, including conducting eye and vision screenings within your local community, working with eye care professionals to create an eye health presentation or holding an educational event promote diabetes awareness and related vision loss.

No matter how you choose to serve, know that you are making a big difference to the sight of your community and to others who live all over the world. Let’s work together to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to sight.

Pack your bags, grab the sunscreen and let’s get ready to camp! We are officially less lions-pride_sunset-at-campthan ten days away from the start of the 2018 camping season at Wisconsin Lions Camp, and we couldn’t be more excited. For the past 60+ years, nearly 1300 campers with vision, hearing, mild cognitive disabilities and Type 1 and 2 diabetes travel to Rosholt for the adventure of a lifetime.

Below you will find the 2018 schedule:

Block One

June 10-15                       Adults who are Blind or Visually Impaired

June 17-22                       Children with Type I & II Diabetes

June 24-29                       Children with Type I & II Diabetes

July 1-6                             Children with Intellectual Disabilities or Educational Autism

July 8-13                           Children with Intellectual Disabilities or Educational Autism

July 15-20                         Staff Transition Week

Block Two

July 22-27                          Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

July 29-August 3               Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

August 5-10                       Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired

August 12-17                     Adults 18-25 with Intellectual Disabilities or Educational Autism (by invitation only)

August 20-24                     Adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (July 20)

During their week away, campers have the chance to create a comprehensive program built around their interests. Overnight camping, canoeing, hiking, swimming, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, archery and crafts make up the daily activities that take place at camp.

The goals of camp are to assist each child in the areas of self-confidence, interdependence, environmental awareness, but above all, to have a fun, safe experience combined with camaraderie and friendship.

What do our campers and Lions Pride have in common? We both look forward to the camping season all year long. Did you know that when the Wisconsin Lions Camp was first opened, it was funded primarily by Lions Club donations? In the last decade or so, however, expenses for camp and all other WLF statewide projects have increased drastically.

Many might be surprised to learn that combatting rising costs was the primary reason for the birth of our organization. Read the whole story here. Today, the Wisconsin Lions Camp is one of the statewide WLF projects that receive financial support from the Lions Pride Endowment Fund. We’re proud to work alongside both donors to help create lifetime camp experiences for both now and future generations.  We sincerely appreciate your support as we continue on to preserve, protect and provide.

“Change is the law of life.”

Where has the time gone? It’s hard to Dewey Carlbelieve we are already well into the month of March. If you’ve been keeping up with us for the past six months, you know that our organization has gone through a lot of changes during this period.

The largest difference, of course, is the loss of our founder and chairperson, Dewey Carl, who passed away last August. While we still feel the obvious hole in our hearts, we continue to pick up the pieces and find new ways to honor his memory.

One of the tasks that has been on top of our To Do list for quite some time has been the review and updates of our website with current information. Each year, there are changes to the Board of Directors, but this was the first time it was updated without Dewey. It just didn’t feel right to remove him completely – after all, where would we be without his original vision? Instead, we just moved him to his own dedicated Tribute Page.

For all of you who only knew Dewey through Lions Pride you might be surprised to learn how involved he was outside of Lions. He was very involved in his community and church and sat on the Board of Directors for several organizations. In 2011, he was presented with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals of Northeast Wisconsin. He truly was a Lion through and through.

Although LPEF has been shaken by our loss, our mission remains the same. Dewey’s voice and support started the campaign, and his indomitable spirit continues to inspire us to carry on as he would have wanted. Now more than ever, our words hold true. Lions Pride is dedicated to continuing our efforts to preserve, protect and provide for Lions Camp and all WLF statewide projects, and hope that you will help us carry out Dewey’s vision.

It’s that time again; time for the USA/Canada Leadership Forum. lions-100th-anniversaryLast fall, we were fortunate to attend the 2015 Forum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and, we are attending again this year, in Omaha, Nebraska.

For the past 39 years, Lions from all over North America come together to participate in the largest and greatest Lions Club Leadership Training Event. Over the course of the next three days, Lions will have the opportunity to take part in dozens of leadership seminars, browse the expansive exhibitor hall, listen to inspiring speakers and (re)connect with friends.

The 2016 Forum will be slightly different than the past conferences because there will be a primary focus on preparing for the Lions Club 100th Anniversary. If you recall, to celebrate our milestone anniversary, we, as Lions, have been challenged in accomplishing 100 million acts of service. In addition to participating in several of the 60+ seminars, Forum Participants are invited to partake in three service projects representing four service campaigns:

Engaging Our Youth

Sharing the Vision

Relieving the Hunger

Protecting the Environment

We can’t wait to participate in another weekend of learning and fun with the arguably the greatest company – thousands of Lions!

On behalf of Lions Pride, we’d like to wish all of our traveling friends, safe travels, and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the forum.
